Tomopop review: Vannen's Designer Vinyl watch series
by Colette Bennett on 09/15/2009 2 comments

If you're thinking you averagely come to Tomopop to read reviews of toys and a watch is not one of those things, you would be correct. However, from the moment I first saw Vannen's line of beautiful watches, I fell instantly in love with the look of them. Series one boasted designs from well known designer vinyl artists such as Buff Monster, Brian Morris, Chris Ryniak and Damon Soule, with more coming down the line.

Surely, toy collectors must be drawn to fashion too, being such an esthetically-conscious group of people (especially designer vinyl fans). Would these watches be a cool accessory to rock, I wondered? Hit the jump to get a better look at the Buff Monster "Happy Creamy" model and decide for yourself whether these functional works of art are worth your sixty five bones.

So yeah, you know we how we always show you the packaging as a rule in these reviews (just cause it's kind of fun to see what your new acquisition is going to come in)? Well, these packages are cool. In fact, so cool that I had that hovering moment where I just kind of held the box and thought how awesome it was. I usually throw blind boxes and other types of packaging away, but this one I am keeping. I think you can see why.

Yeah. Kind of awesome. Still, I wanted to get in the box, of course, and so I pried it open to get at the watch inside.

The first thing I was reminded of was good old Swatch, but with updated, hipper designs. That's just what the Vannen watch is like, with a thin yet durable-feeling rubber strap and a plastic face. It's got a glossy finish on all parts, giving the overall look a nice finish. Flip it over, and you'll see it's handsomely engraved with the artist's name on the back.

These watches are unisex, and as you can see, look just as cool on a man's wrist as they would on a woman's. I'm a big fan of the attention to detail, especially the sliding loop that holds the strap in place.

Overall, I'm really pleased with the look and feel of the watch. It's comfortable to wear (and like blind box toys, I kind of wanted more of them as soon as I got my hands on one!). For the price, you get a really handsome product that is stylish and completely functional. I would proudly wear this anywhere, and in fact it hasn't left my wrist since I recieved it in the mail. Each watch is limited to 500 pieces, so if you want one, I recommend you don't waste your time: head to Vannen now and pick up your own!
