Tomopop Review: Symbiote Studio's Symbiotes
by Rio McCarthy on 09/19/2009 4 comments

Symbiote Studios has quickly become near to my heart, because as soon as I received these Symbiotes and got them in my hands, I knew I had found one of my new favorite things to customize. Before I even had them in my hands, with the name alone, I knew what my first custom would be, which you will see much more in depth coming up early in the week.

As you can tell, I'm clearly excited about these toys, and if you hit the jump you'll find out why!

Symbiotes

First off, the packaging is cute and pretty self explanatory: if it's a DIY version it tells you so, and if not than it has the character of choice on the box. I absolutely adore the boxes, and would love to see more companies take advantage of making cute packaging such as this.

Symbiotes

Of course, inside the box lies the deathly hollows that is the plastic prison. Luckily though, these are easy to remove the toys from, so therefore you shouldn't have any problems with paint scratching off, etc. Each toy comes with an extra set of hands that can hold the items that come with them. Usually there are two accessories per figure.

Symbiotes

We'll start with the DIY toys first, mostly because I'm partial, but also because they're awesome even though they're blank. The toys have the same texture as several of those other soft vinyl DIY toys we know and love. The DIY versions have extra hands and accessories just like the character version, which is awesome for those who like extra items with their customs.

Symbiotes

One thing I thought was a little strange though is that the images on the back of the box show the accessory images in color, but in reality, the swords and staves are just a solid color based on what color your DIY toy is. Not that that's like terrible, but the staff kind of just looks like a random stick.

Symbiotes

Next we come to the character Symbiotes, with the two I have being the Pirate and Frowning Dr. Tran. There are a total of 3 different Dr. Tran Symbiotes, as well as a Ninja to fight the Pirate. Unfortunately, since I did not have a Ninja, the Pirate thought it'd be a good idea to pick a fight with Dr. Tran instead.

Symbiotes

They had a very intense stare down...

The Pirate then started to become a little uncomfortable.

Then Dr. Tran threatened to blow off the Pirate's face with his bazooka. The End.

Symbiotes

Now all of the Symbiotes are friends, even the faceless ones, which one of them is now technically no longer faceless, but still. If you've not gotten your hands on these toys of absolute awesome, I suggest you hurry and go do so now because I've had a ton of fun with them, and can't wait to get more. Head on over to the Symbiote Studios store now to see what they've got in stock. Most Symbiotes are $15 each, while the Dr. Tran figures will cost you $20 each. You can also pick up a shirt that says "Panda is the new Monkey" which I absolutely wish I could buy.

What are you waiting for?! Hurry up and go get some of these NOW! You definitely won't regret it, and stay tuned early in the week for the process of customizing one of the DIY Symbiotes.
