Tomopop review: Dreamtech's Kuma from Persona 4
by Colette Bennett on 08/25/2009 13 comments

As much as we yap about wanting Persona 4 collectibles around Tomopop, you'd think that I was pretty worked up when DreamTech announced they were making a Kuma from Persona 4, and you'd be right. In case you're confused, thinking "You mean Teddie?", it's the same character -- he was called Kuma in the Japanese version of Persona 4, which actually translates to "bear". Beary good, as Teddie would say!

While Kuma is a small scale figure (just about 3 1/2 inches), that doesn't mean he can't pack a punch for your toy shelf. If you'd like to get a better look at him without having to venture into the shadowy depths of the TV world, just hit the break and I'll take you on a slightly safer tour.

It's funny to find myself really appreciating the box a toy comes in, as the whole object of getting the toy is to get it out of the box, right? Still, Kuma's box is easily one of my favorites I've gotten in some time. It's clean and compact, and it follows the bright yellow color theme of the game. It had some great little details though, like the TV screen on the top of the box.

Nice touch! You can see more shots of all the angles of the box in the gallery. For now, let's get him out of there.

What a face! Teddie looks just as good out of the box as you might hope. His colors are crisp and his details are all perfect. His arms are actually movable too, so if you're in the mood to adjust his stance a bit you can do so.

Kuma attaches to the base by way of a single peg, which allows him to get that dynamic stance as if he's in mid-stride. It feels sturdy -- I don't think you'll have issues with him leaning or bending.

What a happy little guy. Another detail I really loved is the position of the zipper -- it looks as if it's moving along with him, flying behind with the breeze.

Here's a better look at the back view. He could be displayed anywhere, and in fact would be best shown off in a way where you can see him from all angles. Also, that tail amps up the cuteness factor to near-intolerable levels.

Kuma still seems to be floating around for preorder online, so if you're interested in getting one check out Toylet, NCSX and Hobbyfan. His price seems to vary anywhere between $28 - $40, but it's a small price to pay to get this unique little figure to keep all your big chested ladies company of the shelf. Tomopop definitely recommends this one, especially for Persona fans!
