Show and Tell: Dok A Custom Stefan LePodd Mourning Edition
by Stephen Donaldson on 02/26/2010 0 comments

When I saw that Dok A would be releasing a limited hand-painted custom on his Spookypop store, I knew I'd have to get one. After having nowhere near enough money for the custom Cranston he made, but still wanting a Dok A custom, I knew I'd jump on this opportunity, even though it was only a smaller minifigure.

Surprisingly, size is a non-issue to this amazing custom; it demands attention even when placed among other figures, even at abut 3" high. Hit the jump to see just how detailed and awesome this Dok A custom really is!

After I somehow managed to grab one of these before they sold out in less than a minute, I waited about a week, and lo and behold, he was at my door, staring at me with his beady-eyes. I just had to get him out of his plastic shell!

This little guy comes in a slide-out plastic case with a see-through window on the front so that he can be displayed in-box as well. I really like this packaging as it's a nice little touch to have it slide out instead of being a standard fold-in box; it seems classier, which is fitting for a top-hat wearing Mechtorian.

Once out of his case, he began to look around his surroundings with his big purple eyes. The rust details around his eyes are very well done and look as if it actually were metal on the figure, when in fact everything seen here is vinyl that has just been painted on.

Dok A himself signed and numbered each of these on the underside of the mustache, and I happened to get lucky number 7 out of 20!

This Mini Mechtorian also has quite an impressive 'stache with nice, subtle, purple detailing on it. This mustache is so awesome that it even helps hold him up! That's one stylish, yet functional, mustache Mr. LePodd's got goin' on there!

In fine style with his mustache, this gentleman also requires a top hat, and he has a mighty fine one indeed. With a simple, yet powerful purple sash around it, the color scheme really resonates throughout this entire piece.

Finally, completing the ensemble,  is this amazingly detailed pocket watch. Each less-than-a-millimeter link in the chain is painted, and looks as if this were a production piece with the level of precision show. You can also see here the round-body of this figure and his rusted old pegs for legs. This gentleman sure has had many adventures!

From the back of this figure, you can tell that he's steam-powered; his chimney has had much use, as seen from the rust. The detailing on the faux-wood is amazing and really looks as if it were a little log in person.

Here's one last shot for good measure that shows off all of the amazing detail on this figure. From the little purple touches, to the rust, to the little chain on the pocket watch, this figure is purely amazing.

I'm so glad to finally own a Dok A custom, and I hope that this is the first of many many more as it was well worth the money. Dok A's use of color and texture really emulate any surface perfectly, and this little 3" Mechtorian shows just how skillful he really is - he is without a doubt, the best customizer in the vinyl world. If you want to see more of this little guy, don't mourn; there's more in the gallery below!
