Show and Tell: Date Masamune from Sengoku Basara
by Eva Duenas on 07/17/2009 5 comments

Are you guys ready?! I present to you the sexy samurai known as Date Masamune from Sengoku Basara by Kotobukiya. I've posted about this figure ago so he might look familiar to you. I wasn't planning on getting him anytime soon but he ended up being in one of my orders and I can say I don't regret it.

He has to be one of my new favorite figures and I'll show you why. Let's party!

As a whole, the figure is really awesome. But honestly, the face isn't the best part. While it isn't that horrible, it's really the entire outfit that makes this figure amazing. It looks like they took more time to focus on the details of his outfit than his face. The blue is absolutely beautiful and really makes him stand out.

Here is a picture of his entire body. If you couldn't see it in the picture above, he's sexy. I mean, he's really sexy. The pose really fits his character and doesn't look forced at all. Did I mention that he's sexy?

The main focus of this figure is really his six swords. You can see that they were careful in trying not to mess up the best feature about him.

There were probably a few of you wondering how they made the six swords stay attached to his outfit. Anyone familiar with Sengoku Basara know that his sheaths are attached to each other through a webbing. They are all together as one piece and it just attaches to the side. The base is really huge compared to him but it needs room for the batteries. That's right, it has a talking base! Sadly, I didn't have enough time to take a video of it but it has him saying several familiar phrases.

In the back, they did a beautiful job with the spiral-like design on the top. In some figures, they will only look good from the front but I could have this figure displayed with his back as the main focus as well.

The last thing to mention about this figure is that it comes with an alternate head! Of course, they provide that for the ladies who want to see his sexy face rather than it being hidden under the epic helmet.

Masamune originally came out back in December 2007. HLJ had him in stock for a long time and I truly believe I ended up purchasing the last one they had in stock (really, this was just like a month or so ago). A couple of weeks ago they announced an August re-release but the reservation is already closed at HobbySearch. I've checked around on several websites, even eBay, and he seems to be kind of hard to find (I really lucked out on getting him when I did).

Now if you would excuse me I need to go clean off the drool from my screen.
