As of right now, you can go out and see Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. For the past two weeks though, the toys have been out and have been rather well-stocked as compared to the last release. There's multiple lines, scales, and various gimmicks to keep your interest and give Hasbro your money. And hey, we finally get a combining Devastator. Well, sort of. Follow the jump to check out the summer movie toy preview for Revenge of the Fallen.
To begin, there's a hell lot of lines out there. For actual transforming figures, you have the Scout, Deluxe, Voyager, Leader, Human Alliance, and Fast Action Battlers. For non-transforming figures, there's Robot Replicas. If you'd like to pretend you're a Transformer, there's role-play stuff too.

Scout class is your basic series of Transformers figures. You'll find a lot of things here that vaguely appeared in the movie or not at all. You'll get Rollbar, Dead End, Knock Out, Dirt Boss, Depth Charge, and what I personally think is the coolest Transformer ever made, a bi-plane named Ransack. I kinda wish there was a steampunk Transformer, or at least a Panzer tank. Come to think of it, WWI and WWII would make for an awesome Transformers series. Anyway, the Scout class is fairly easy to find anywhere from $6-$9. The third wave of the Scout class isn't out yet, but you can find Scapel, Reverb and Dune Runner (guess they finally ran out of names) when they're released to stores later this month.

The Deluxe class figures pretty much take after their name. They'll have all the details seen in the movie and will be about 4-6 inches in size. You'll also have a couple that aren't in the movie, but nowhere near the amount that's in the Scout class. Your smaller, core characters are here, such as Bumblebee and Soundwave's preview release. Later on, there will be a new version of Bumblebee, just with cannons coming out of his hood. There's also a couple of re-releases, such as Barricade and Brawl, just with a slightly different paint job. In this lineup, there's Skids, Breakaway, Chromia, Mudflap, Rampage, Ravage, Sideways, and Wheelie. If you're thinking of making Devastator with these, you won't be able to as not all of his combination are in the line and they will only transform into their robot form, not their combiner form. Deluxe class figures generally go for $10-$12 and can be found in good supply everywhere.

My favorite line in the Transformers franchise is the Voyager line. They're large, sturdy figures and have the most attention to detail out of the basic figures. There are a ton of paint applications and some there for really no reason. In any case, these are the big boys of the lineup and their price reflects that. Some will go for as little as $20, but some can get in the range of $35+ depending on the retailer. Generally though, you can grab them for $23. In this lineup, you'll get Demolisher, a repaint of Ratchet, Ironhide with a new gun, Megatron who is now a tank, Mixmaster which surprisingly isn't a turn table for Soundwave, Optimus Prime with Chinese lettering meaning "leader" on his leg for some reason, Starscream with "Cybertronian markings" as I gather he's trying to get into the UFC with bad tribal tatoos, and another plane Stratosphere. Lastly, there's also the Fallen. I have no idea what he's supposed to be. He's a jet, I guess? I really have no idea. I'll find out when I see the movie. Voyager class figures will be the first that sell out and difficult to find. Up until now, I haven't really seen any shortages, but I imagine that will change after the movie is released today.

Now its time for the big boys toys, the Leader class. These are the largest figures you can get, being about a foot tall in robot mode. There are only three scheduled releases, Optimus Prime, Megatron and surprisingly Jetfire. Jetfire won't be a Valkyrie from Macross this time, but instead he'll be a SR-71 Blackbird. I'm not sure if Jetfire will be able to perform his movie action with Optimus Prime, but it'd be a decent effort if they tried to. Leader class figures will retail for about $50 and should be readily available.
Probably the toy that everyone wants and is looking forward to is combinable Devastator. As you can see above, he seems kinda...off. Devastator himself is made out of the Decepticons Overlord, Mixmaster, Rampage, Scavenger Scrapper, Hightower and Long Haul. As I mentioned before, you can't buy the separate Deluxe and and Voyager figures and combine them to make Devastator. You'll have to buy the specific line, called the EZ Collection, to make him. The individual pieces will only transform into the form required for Devastator. Mixmaster will only become a face, with the others making a vague resemblance to an arm, leg, or piece of a torso. No word yet as to when it will be available in stores, but preorder is available via BigBadToyStore. On an unrelated note, Devastator, according to scale, is smaller than the original RX-78-2 Gundam (14m vs. 18.5m). Even the short, stumpy Guntank is taller at 15 meters.

Now for fun with the random oddities! Perhaps the oddest figure of the group is that of the human protaganist Sam Witwicky. He'll be paired up with Bumblebee and can sit in his arm. The figure will run $35, though I think a better option would be getting the Deluxe Bumblebee and a clearanced Shia LeBeouf from Indiana Jones. What would really carry the line over would be Megan Fox. I would much rather have a figure of Megan Fox than Bumblebee with a figure of Shia Bidoof. Also in Bumblebee releases is the the Ultimate line. Just a tad larger than the Leader class, what makes him Ultimate is that he lights up and makes sound. He'll also have close to double the price tag at $90-100. Also available are the Robot Replicas. They don't transform, but they're poseable figures of the robot forms. Most of the movie cast is in this line, and generally go for $10-$12.

The weirdest toys that are available are the helmets and role-play weapons. Now, there's no Barrel Roll Blaster this time around, but you can have Bumblebee's Plasma Cannon. It's basically a punching fist that makes sounds. The helmets will go on your head and change your voice, and only awesome can come when you have a robot mask for a head. You can choose from Bumblebee and Optimus Prime, which will both make you sound like them in some manner or fashion. They're all pretty costly, as they will be $50 a piece.
There's a lot of stuff out there and Hasbro really, really wants your money. If you're wondering what happened to Arcee, she's still in the movie. However, the 3 motorcycles combine to form Arcee in the movie, just not the toy. The three are given new names, and as to why there's no toy for Arcee yet there was a random purple bike called Arcee for the last movie, I don't know. In any case, you can find them at all major toy outlets (Wal-Mart, ToysRUs, Target, Walgreens, CVS, K-Mart, etc.) as well as the internet. I wouldn't worry about figures being short in supply, so don't feed the scalpers on eBay. As for the movie itself, I'm not taking this as a serious story (nor should anyone). It's about robots beating the hell out of each and the greater goal of selling a crapload of toys. Plot is just something I'll discard as I'm smashing Starscream into everything.
