If you follow all things Vocaloid, especially those Hatsune Miku-related (as you know many of us around here do), you've surely already seen the music boxes. Two were released in Japan last year as part of the Sega Prize series, which means if you went to a Japanese arcade around that time, you could have won this. Can you imagine? I've never won anything half as cool as this at any American arcade ...

While I was in Los Angeles last week for E3, I had a chance to make it to Japantown and spied this lovely lady for a mere $24.99 while shopping. Some chances you just can't pass up, and I thought I'd take this opportunity to shamelessly show her off to all of you.

Along with her stand, this tiny Miku measures in a little under 5 inches in height. This is the chibi version of the music box. The other one, which can be seen here, is the hachune face version and playes Ievan Polkka when you turn it. This one plays a tune called Kakera Star.

I like Miku's hachune face and everything, but I infinitely prefer this version of the music box. Reason being, there are some incredible details that make it one of the cutest versions of the Vocaloid goddess out there.

For one thing, that FACE. LOOK AT THAT FACE! It has all the clear, thoughtful sweetness that you'll like to imagine Miku really having, could you step off my laptop wallpaper and into real life one day. I love the touch of the too-long sleeve as well -- I can just imagine our own Pedro Cortes bellowing "MOE!" at the top of his lungs at the very sight of it.

Miku's stand is pretty cool too. Decorated in her signature blue and black, it has all the coolness factor a platform supporting Hatsune Miku ought to have. Lots of nice detail!

One look at this and you can easily imagine what a fine addition she'd make to your toy shelf, bedside table, or for that matter, anywhere in your humble abode.

Once again, one must beg the question: striped pantsu or non-striped pantsu? I personally love the striped ones, but Miku is traditionally shown with white ones (her Nendoroid sports this color as well), so who am I to complain.

One of the only retailers that seems to still carry her is Toylet, where the set of two music boxes retails for $49.99. If you just want one though, I'd say you'll need to keep your eye trained on eBay and dealer's rooms, because these are hard to find single. Good luck and happy hunting!
