Why Japan Hates Me: Hobby Show Exclusives
by Andres Cerrato on 12/11/2008 5 comments

There's a couple of things that I hate about Japanese toy shows. One, I'm not there and second, I stand next to a snowball's chance in hell of getting the goods on display. At the 2008 Tokyo Hobby Show, one of the final releases before the Yamaguchi line of Revoltechs goes on hiatus was announced. To my surprise, it was a redesign of the title mecha from Overman King Gainer. Streamlined with a metallic blue coating and a samurai stylization, it was a great departure to see a figure line that actually redesigned the figure instead of just re-coloring it (I'm looking at you, Bandai). The Black Overman Gainer XAN, as it's been named, comes with a kunai, sword along with the sheath, 3 sets of additional hands, and a display base for dynamic mid-air poses.

In traditional hobby show fashion however, things as good as this must invariably be a mail-order exclusive.  The figure itself retails for 2940 yen plus shipping and is available via mail-in pre-order via Dengeki Hobby Magazine until the 7th of January (provided you have the order form and a Japanese shipping address). However, thanks to Play-Asia and several proxy sale sites, you can make this figure yours at a price of $45.90. The figure is due for its debut in March. Also, for you Gurren Lagann fans here, the other exclusive figure announced was Revoltech Enkidudu, which you can find as well at Play-Asia.
