I recently talked about a few cool events I was looking forward to that were taking place during Miami's annual art event Art Basel, and as I neared the Art Center South Florida last night I knew that I was going to witness something very unique when it comes to Miami Beach. It's not too often that you get to see such an eclectic mix of people and art as I did at the Kaiju Monster Invasion!
In case you are uneducated in the ways of kaiju, allow me to enlighten you. The Japanese word actually means "strange beast", and while the most famously known kaiju is Godzilla, his appearance encouraged countless other monsters to success and provided a great boost for Tokusatsu entertainment in general.
The show featured an incredible selection of artists and will actually remain on display at the Art Center through January 5th. Besides the towering orange beast that stood on the exhibit lobby, my favorite pieces were David McDowell's three-headed Jack Nicholson painting and the rather disturbing vaginas with legs (obviously NSFW) that stood near the front windows of the show.
