Domo for Target: best new merger ever?
by Rio McCarthy on 09/10/2008 7 comments

Say hello to Domo. Hatched from a mysterious egg in an underground cave, he first made the scene in Japan - where his TV-fueled imagination and wide-eyed exuberance led him into tricky situations. Now he's arrived at Target, just in time for Halloween, or so the packaging for the amazing piece of candy I have in my hand says.

I have always loved Domo-kun, and just the sight of him makes me insanely happy. I'd never gotten to own anything with his face adorned before, but now thanks to Target I own quite a few quirky items.

To see what some of the items available are, hit the jump!

Target has really gone all out. On the lowest end of things there are $0.99 and $1.99 candies, including sugar decorated marshmallow Domo, Chocolate Domo Lollipops and Domo Candy Skewers that have gummy Domo mouths. There are $2.99 candies as well that include a Domo Tackle Box with candies inside.

There are bigger items available also which made me absolutely giddy. I picked up a super-soft and fuzzy Domo zip case that had candy necklaces and bracelets inside. They had a soft mini-tote that had candy in it as well, that was totally cute. Both of these were $4.99.

As much as I like candy, there were a couple of things that made me even more happy. They have Domo-kun plushes. As far as I know there are only four, which are Dracula, a pumpkin, Frankenstein and the Devil. I picked up all of them except for Frankenstein which I'll have to nab on my next trip there. For only $7.99 a piece they're definitely worth it for the hug factor.

There's a majorly cute set of mini-figures available that include 6 different poses. They come in a set of two for $6.99. Now the biggest Domo related item I saw that I couldn't afford to get today, beside the fact that I didn't have space for it, is a Domo pinata. I nearly started rolling around in the middle of the aisles laughing my head off, as just the idea is so freaking adorable. The fact that I've been playing Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise religiously doesn't help my fixation for pinatas either of course.

There is pretty much something for everyone if you've got a little bit of a Domo-kun fan in you. I suggest you go take a trip and check it out, as if all else fails their marketing is amazing. I never saw a poster that didn't make me giggle out loud. If you'd like to see some of the items I didn't get to pick up head on over to target.com/halloween. But I say head out now! What are you waiting for?
