Go For Broke: Zero no Tsukaima
by Pedro Cortes on 08/31/2008 2 comments

Welcome yet again the article that makes your checkbook scream, Go For Broke!

This week I focus on the ecchi action/comedy series Zero no Tsukaima.  Originally started as a light novel series (now on its 14th volume and 2nd side story), ZnT tells the tale of Saito, a Japanese boy summoned into a medieval world as the familiar of a royal girl named Louise at a prestigious magical academy.  As time goes on in the series, it becomes apparent that Saito and Louise are more than they seem.

ZnT shares many elements from last weeks show, Shakugan no Shana. Both shows feature tsundere leads who are ridiculously self-conscience about their ... small sizes and more concerned about the possible attentions their unfortunate objects of affection may give to others.  Both started as light novel series and (perhaps even more oddly) both have the same male and female voice actors performing the leads. It's a bit disconcerting watching one then switching to the other and continuing to hear the same voices.

Follow me after the jump to get a peek at some of the deliciously moé and ecchi statues from this amusing series.

Zero no Tsukaima:  Siesta 1/8 PVC

First up we have Siesta, the cute and busty maid that has taken a shine to our main man Saito.  Unlike most of the characters in the show, Siesta has black hair, due to the fact that she is descended from a Japanese fighter pilot that also managed to cross over from our world into hers.  While at first timid around Saito, she has grown to be quite bold, often going out of her way to flirt with him and subsequently getting him into trouble with his bitchy master.  The statue has Siesta in her maid uniform, turning around in surprise with her uniform reflecting her movement.  She also has green panties, if you happen to care, which I do. Very much so.

Release Date:  Siesta came into stock late June/early July, though AnimeXing is listing her as a late August release.

Is it available?  Yep, Siesta is pretty easy to find.  She isn't one of the more ornate maids I've seen, but she has the power of moé on her side!

Price:  She goes between $50 and $63

Available @  Hobby Search  Robert's Anime Corner Store  Hobby Link Japan  AnimeXing

Zero no Tsukaima Knight of Twin Moon: Tabitha 1/8 Scale PVC

Here we have yet another of the cadre of cuties from ZnT, the reticent and extremely capable Tabitha. This show's silent Rei-clone, Tabitha often acts as the deus ex machina and pulls the lead characters out of trouble using her intelligence and her giant dragon familiar. However, behind that stereotypical exterior lies a very wounded girl who is fiercely loyal to her friends and her causes.  This figure has Tabitha in mid-incantation, much like a previously released Louise statue. Something interesting to note is that there seem to be two different versions of Tabitha that look incredibly alike, yet are priced quite differently. Due to no discernible differences, I'll be posting the cheaper of the two since we all could use a couple extra bucks in our accounts.

Release Date:  Some places list her as coming out in Feburary 2008, however everywhere else says that she came out in May, possibly through a rerelease.

Is it available?  Tabitha is quite easy to find, probably due to the fact she's a supporting cast member.

Price:  Between $32 and $58

Available @  Hobby Search  Kid Nemo  J-List  Robert's Anime Corner Store   Hobby Link Japan

 1/8 Louise PVC (Jun Planning)

Now I finally bring you the first of the Louise figures this week, the Jun Planning version of Louise. Now, last week I spoke about the over-sexualization of Shana in some of the figures released. Considering the kinky get up that Louise is in, you might think that I would object in the same way. However, if you've seen the show, you'd get that there is quite an ecchi aspect to the whole thing. So while Louise may not show up EXACTLY in this costume (though for some reason I think she does, possibly in the first season), it isn't out of character for her to dress up as a dominatrix. Considering how many times she beats the crap out of Saito, it might even be more appropriate for her to stay like this the whole time.

Release Date:  Some list March, others list July.  Either way she is out there.

Is it available?  Kinda hard to find.  Not surprising considering that her outfit is pretty damn hot.

Price:  Either $40 or $52

Available @  Kid Nemo  Hobby Link Japan

Zero no Tsukaima: Knight of Twin Moons Louise 1/7 Scale PVC

Our lead girl is featured again scantily clad with a weapon of beating in her hands.  Instead of a kinky outfit, COSPA modeled Louise in her nightie, which is what she often wears as she beats the shit out of Saito.  Cute, but kinda plain considering the other ZnT statues out there.

Release Date:  April 2008

Is it available?  Like most Louise statues, she's getting hard to find.  There's something about cute girls in cute outfits that makes people buy statues.

Price: Both sites hover around $60

Available @  Hobby Search  Hobby Link Japan

Zero no Tsukaima: Louise 1/6 Scale PVC (Little Devil Ver.)

Ah yes, back to delicious outfits.  Louise is once again in her nighties, but this one is significantly hotter than the white outfit above.  It's no shock they call this the 'Little Devil' version, simply because she does NOT look amused.  I have a feeling that Saito is going to have quite a few bruises in the morning.  Although the idea of Louise slapping Saito around gets old, the damage that she leaves never fails to amuse.

Release Date:  December 2007, though I figure there must have been a rerelease since then.

Is it available?  You can find it in two places, but I figure not for long.

Price:  $50 and $51 respectively.

Available @  Power Anime  Toys Logic

Zero no Tsukaima: Louise Bustier Ver. 1/8 Scale PVC

Finally we have my favorite of the bunch, Louise in a maid outfit.  Unlike Siesta's above, this is quite the extravagant get up, and quite frankly the one that screams moé at the top of its lungs.  There's a short, frilly skirt, a black and pink garter,  long sleeves, a slight blush.  This is like they looked into my head and ripped out the perfect statue and made it into glorious PVC!

Release Date:  January 2008

Is it available?  Getting hard to find.  If you want it, pick it up soon.

Price:  Either $49 or $46

Available @  Power Anime  AnimeXing

That's it for this week folks, have a broke one!
