It was a surprise to us, anyway. We hadn't read anywhere that Square-Enix would be in attendance at this year's Comic Con, but as we waded through the massive lines of people waiting to play some of the videogames on display, we suddenly found ourselves standing at the company's display booth.
Square-Enix had brought along plenty for us to feast our eyes upon, from their better-known pieces like Judge Gabranth and their Trading Arts sets, to some prototypes and pieces we'd never even seen before, which are still in their early production stages.
The first thing that becomes immediately apparent upon seeing some of these offerings in person is the stunning detail that goes into each one. Be it a tiny phone charm or a 28" sculpture, the craftsmanship is superb and the detail outstanding. The second thing to put a smile on your face is the pricing. The large Cloud Strife figure with the motorcycle from FFVII? $80. The one from Advent Children with Fenrir? $60. Once again, regardless of size or material, the quality and value carries on through the entire selection. There are pieces here we'd happily have paid upward of $200 for, which were retailing for less than half that price.
The figures and collectibles we've already become familiar with at retail were indeed impressive, but even moreso are the ones that aren't yet available. Be on the lookout in the coming months for some of what you'll see in the gallery below, including the special edition Sora statue, and replica weapons from the history of the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts franchises.
P.S.- Yes, Colette, that is a Chocobo rubber ducky you see there.
