Are you sitting down? Aliens Revoltechs are on the way
by Topher Cantler on 10/26/2009 11 comments

Yes, it's true. Destructoid editor Jim Sterling has just passed out in ecstasy at this news, surely. Those of you still conscious will be pleased to know that Kaiyodo has seen fit to expand the Revoltech universe beyond its traditional manga, anime and gaming foundations.

The new Revoltech SFX series will feature characters from sci-fi films and the like. First up? None other than the Xenomorph from the Aliens series. The 2009 Revoltech Expo is scheduled for October 31st, and should play host to all sorts of new info and the lifting of veils. Keep an eye out and we'll update with the freshest pics and info as it becomes available.

What do you guys think about Revoltech expanding like this? Anybody else a huge Aliens fan like our friend Jim? If not, what would you like to see next in line for a Revoltech?

Destructoid rocks 24 hours of games for Extra Life charity
by Topher Cantler on 10/17/2009 5 comments

Over at our sister site, Destructoid, the Miami crew is participating in Extra Life -- a 24-hour gaming marathon which will raise money to fund research for pediatric cancer. If you're a Dtoider, you probably remember SingSterling from last year, when Jim played a solid 12 hours of SingStar for the same cause.

We're at it again, and you can watch the antics via our live feed right over here. Feeling inspired by the nonsense you see taking place? You can help out by donating whatever you can spare. Just head here to drop your contribution in the bucket, and cross off your good deed for the day. Got a dollar? Every little bit helps, folks.

You can also comment on the live feed, so if you'd like, you can drop into the chat for a while and chill with us while we watch the crew rock out. Any donations are welcome and appreciated, no matter how small. See you there!

TGS 09: Behold the Bayonetta figure prototype
by Topher Cantler on 09/24/2009 7 comments

Well, look at that. If you read Destructoid, (and you should), you probably saw the alleged leaked Sega document Jim posted, talking about all sorts of juicy secrets we weren't supposed to know yet. Among them was a proposed Bayonetta action figure, and whattaya know -- here she is.

Perhaps more interestingly, courtesy of Square-Enix.

Colette spotted these two poseable ladies in their prototype form at Tokyo Game Show, and promptly forwarded along the photographic evidence of their existence. If the proportions look a little weird upon first glance, that's okay -- Bayonetta herself has some pretty weird proportions as it is.

The accompanying promotional poster has the date 10/29 stamped on it, but before you get excited, that's the Japanese release date for the game. No word yet on when the figures will be available, but given the fickle franchise market on this side of the pond, I think it's safe to say we'll be seeing them around the time of the game's US launch

Colette is looking right at these as I type this, so she'll obviously be able to tell you more when she gets back. In the meantime, what do you guys think so far? Looking good? If you're excited for the game would you consider grabbing one of these too? Special edition package thingy, maybe? Feel free to run wild with speculation after the jump.

TGS 09: Capcom brings along life-size Okamiden statues
by Topher Cantler on 09/23/2009 3 comments

Well, this was almost embarassing. Hamza over at Destructoid pointed out to me the latest post on Kramez's blog over at Capcom-Unity, featuring these lovely Okamiden statues. Which, as it turns out, are life-size statues and not figures.

We got a little too excited for a moment there. Nonetheless, these are still just as awesome, and you can tell just looking at Chibiterasu and Kuninushi how cool they'd be if they were actually small enough to take home without aid of a flatbed truck. Will we be seeing smaller, collectible versions of these guys anytime soon? Time will tell, but I think it's safe to say regardless that these are pretty rad in their own right.

Colette, you'd better get some pictures taken with these guys while you're there!

We all scream for Erick Scarecrow's Ice Cream Micci
by Topher Cantler on 09/22/2009 1 comments

From the mind of Erick Scarecrow comes a pair of new limited edition exclusives, featuring none other than his Mousey Micci. You might remember Micci from the plush we reviewed recently, and now he's back in the form of two 6" hand-painted resin figures.

The first is this Strawberry colorway you see above, which is limited to 25 pieces worldwide and will be available exclusively from the ESC-Toy eBay shop. Each one is signed and numbered by Erick himself, and will retail for $90. They go on sale this Friday morning at 11am Eastern.

Second in line is the Green Tea Chocolate colorway, seen in the gallery below. He's being released in celebration of the Tomenosuke shop's third anniversary, and as such is exclusive to the Japanese retailer. If you've got an agent in Japan who handles your toy-buying business, you can contact them for more info. This one's limited to 20 pieces, and goes on sale Saturday.

These are first-come, first-serve, but the good news? The material and limited nature of these can only lead one to believe that a more widely-available vinyl rendition isn't far behind. Keep an eye out for that, and we'll keep you updated as soon as we hear something.

OMG Halloween! Pumpkin-suited DokoDemo Issho prize Revoltechs
by Topher Cantler on 09/21/2009 4 comments

This should be illegal. Blending the sheer awesome of DokoDemo Issho with the magic of Halloween, Taito has teamed up with Kaiyodo to produce these two Revoltech prize figures. We've got Toro and Kuro, not only wearing Jack O'Lanterns, but toting them around as well, threatening all sorts of mischief.

Both figures are also considerably larger than the standard DokoDemo Issho Revoltechs, standing at 15cm tall. That's 3 and a half centimeters larger than the regular ones, which should make them more durable, considering the originals used some of the smallest Revolver joints available, making them pretty delicate.

Toro also comes with a little teacup, and Kuro finally gets his bowtie included instead of having it packaged with another figure. They're available in prize machines all over Japan right now, and should be popping up at your favorite importer before long. In the meantime, check out Taito's website for more info, and a peek at the upcoming Christmas versions.

The newest Yamashita beauty, Hatoori Kiriko, now available for preorder
by Topher Cantler on 09/08/2009 7 comments

We talk a lot about oversaturation around here, but one thing I don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing is figures based on the art of Shunya Yamashita. Latest of these is Hatoori Kiriko here, from the media project Enka Oudou Dai Shogun.

You may remember Colette's sneak peek at the prototype for this lovely young woman from the Tokyo International Anime Fair. The final product stands at around 340mm tall, and is sculpted by Mitsumasa Yoshizawa. She's a Yamashita creation through and through, baring his trademarks of sexy curves, ornate armor and a captivating face.

You can have those gorgeous eyes staring back at you as soon as January, and she's available for preorder now from Hobby Search for 11,210 Yen. Get a closer look at her in the gallery.

Not for eating: promo posters and CM for the new Vocaloid Puchi Nendoroids
by Topher Cantler on 09/08/2009 4 comments

Good Smile Company wants me to choke to death. That's the only conclusion I can come to upon seeing the TV spot and these new promotional posters for their Vocaloid-themed set of Petit Nendoroids.

We often remark around here on how Puchi Nendoroids are cute enough to eat, and it's so true that one must almost force themselves not to make an attempt. Throwing regard for public safety out the window, GSC has seen fit to adorn these posters with images of the aforemenioned morsels on plates, completely going against our efforts to convince ourselves that these are toys and not moe snackables.

Check 'em out in the gallery below, and hit the jump for a video of the new CM, which may as well be a commercial for Gobstoppers. You people will be getting my hospital bills.

Get in the car: Nendoroid Magical Theia from Lucent Heart
by Topher Cantler on 09/06/2009 3 comments

That's a lion. You know what to do.

Mikatan's blog -- shower-offer of all things GSC -- has recently been updated with a peek at the company's latest Nendoroid, Theia. She hails from Gamania's MMORPG, Lucent heart,  and comes with a magic wand and a few faces that are just too cute to do without.

Her little lion friend is also included, featuring a poseable head and legs and adorned with star tattoos because he's that kind of guy. What kind is that, you ask? I have no idea, it's early and I haven't finished my coffee yet, just go with it. Theia here is apparently a Tokimeki Mall online exclusive, but if you head over to Tokyo Hunter before October 5th, he should be able to score you one.

She's set to be released in December and is priced at 4,000 Yen. Any of our lovely readers out there familiar with this game?

Revoltech hugeness: King Raoh and his bigass horse, Kokuoh-go
by Topher Cantler on 08/31/2009 5 comments

Revoltechs come in many shapes and sizes, but this guy is ready to charge in and screw up the averages. Raoh here is part of Kaiyodo's series of Fist of the North Star Revoltechs, and comes poised atop his trusty steed, Kokuoh-go, who is, to coin a phrase, motherf*cking ginormous.

We caught word of this guy at New York Comic-Con a couple years ago, and Brad Rice and I have had an eye out for him ever since. The horse is as fully poseable as you'd expect, and Raoh himself comes with plenty of extra hands and alternate parts, including an attachment to keep him from falling out of the saddle.

Raoh and Kokuoh-go together stand at around 20cm tall, and will be available later in September. In the meantime, you can hit the gallery for some more pics, and head over here for a full review.
