I just knew when I started working for Tomopop that it was only a matter of time before my wallet was ripped open and emptied, leaving me unable to do anything but watch. I didn't even make it a week. Four days was all it took for me to learn that the 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead has a series of 1/6 scale figures. AmokTime has found my weakness and is exploiting it with little mercy.
Barbara, the second figure in the series, started shipping today. And it's glorious. And now I'm broke. Night is my second favorite movie of all time. I have seen it over 30 times and it never gets old for me. It is perfect horror in my opinion. It sets up a world that feels perfectly normal, just like the one that you and I live in. Then it suddenly changes the rules, and leaves the characters to deal with the situation while we the viewer try to figure out how we ourselves would react in their place. That's what pulls me in every time.
The Barbara figure is the second of four announced figures in the series to be released. Hit the jump for a better look at her, the other figures, and two more famous zombies that AmokTime has coming soon.

The Barbara figure, like all of the figures in the series, is incredibly articulated and features clothing made from actual fabric. Her jacket is removable for when she gets too hot. A nice job was done with the face sculpt. It has a great resemblance to the actress Judy O'Dea with her crazed look of shock. I had to order it immediately, and I can't wait for it's arrival.

The first figure from the series, the cemetery zombie, has been available for some time now. It's the first zombie seen in the film stumbling through the graveyard and ultimately giving chase to Barabara. Again, this figure has a strong resemblance to the actor, Bill Hinzman. It actually contains multiple heads and arms. Full color versions are swappable with gray-scale ones to give the figure the black and white look of the film.

Awaiting his release is Ben, the hero character from the film. The prototype photo shows that once again, we should have a great figure upon it's release. The clothing is accurate and it does have a strong likeness to actor Duane Jones. I really can't wait for this one. My pre-order has already been placed.

Finally, we have Karen Cooper (as portrayed by Kyra Schon), the original child zombie. She was the first to teach us the lesson that if a person gets bit and lies dying, you need to get them far, far away from you. When released, she will come with the famous trowel accessory that she used to murder her mother in the film.

After Night of the Living Dead's release, co-writer John Russo created his own sequel that branched out differently from George Romero's Dawn of the Dead. Being something of an untalented hack, it was fortunate that writer/director Dan O'Bannon (who co-wrote the original Alien film) decided to scrap it and made it his own. From this excellent horror-comedy, "Tarman", the lead zombie is scheduled for release in January as a 7" figure.

The final AmokTime zombie offering is from Romero's sequel Day of the Dead. This 7" figure, referred to as Dr. Tongue, is based on the crazed character Dr. Logan in the movie. He is met with an unfortunate end when he has his jaw ripped away by zombies, leaving the upper portion of his head and a dangling tongue intact. This gruesome figure will be available in October.
It's pretty much a given that you'll always have me at zombies. Give me a great looking figure based off of an excellent film, and you'll take my money every time. You can definitely expect a Show and Tell once Barbara is in my hands, and I'll be waiting impatiently for the release of the others.
