It's that time again! Your window to the chibi world has opened once more. For this edition, I've decided to review my brand new set of Death Note Nendoroids. This was one of my "must-haves" from last year when this set was announced. Much like the Case File #01, The Death Note series of Petit Nendoroids follows the manga and anime of the same name, this time featuring characters from the second half of the series.
What I enjoy most about the Death Note Petit series is that the chibi look of these characters is REALLY out of character for each of them. The series is so much about death and killing, it's so refreshing to see something like that immortalized in chibi form.
Hit the jump to hear my take on this fantastic chibi collection!

I'll start off with the two Light Yagami nendos. As far as detail, from the crinkle in the suit to the cross-threading on the tennis racket, these figures have it all. Light's smile is infectious and it really characterizes his ability of fooling others' observations about him. Even Suit Light's facial expression shows his overall mask of his true self. I especially like the color fading effect that the Lights' hair has.

Next are the two Ls. These are probably my second favorite of the entire set. I especially like how they included the "bang" hand that L had the first time he's introduced to the series. One thing I enjoy so much about the Petit Nendoroid series is their ability to capture practically any character and turn them into a perfectly awesome-looking chibi. L is no exception to this. L is pretty plain, as far as his white shirt and blue jeans, so the detail on these two are pretty much left at those two points.
Ah, the Nears; the level of detail on these two seem to stand out to me more than the others. Not only is Near my favorite figure from this set, Near is also my favorite character from the series. Near's facial expression may be the slightest of all other expressions that the characters have, but that's what makes these two great. They capture Near's personality to the T, such as Near's awkward style of sitting and playing with his hair, or his love for toys as shown in his robot. In the series, Near is the successor to L, and that is truly shown in the expression of Near's clothes and how similar they are to L's style.

The Mello figures are also two of the better figures in the set. Like Near, they really capture Mello's mannerisms, such as his love for chocolate bars, and his use of guns. His details are even further displayed in his tight, leather clothing. From Mello's belt buckle to his necklace, Mello, with Near remained as the ones I wanted the most from this set.

Teru Mikami was one of the other figures that I wanted the most besides Near and Mello. His glasses, briefcase, and death note really create the ensemble of his character: organized, refined, and mentally unstable. Misa Amane in her Nurse outfit was not one of the figures I had desired at all. I just really dislike her character, her figure doesn't have much to show off either.

This was one problem I had with the Misa figure. It was poorly detailed and painted. these slippers have no texture to them and they're basically painted extensions of her stockings.

Saving the best for last, is the secret Light figure. Unlike the other Lights, this one has a very unique sculpt, which displays his pose at the end of the anime's opening theme, seen here. This one looks like is was definitely made to appeal to girl collectors, and personally, I think I'd enjoy a Misa Bondage nendo, but that's just me.
Well, if you like what you see and you would like you own set, you can find these on sale over at
